Mould buildup in the sealant is one of the hardest places to clean, especially if it’s left there for months or years. Once it’s there, even with a good amount of elbow grease you may not be able to remove it. Sometimes, despite regularly cleaning bathroom tiles, mould can still show up on the sealant. Knowing the right cleaning method can save you a lot of time and trouble.  Diaphragm Valve Lined Ptfe

Taking to a Mrs Hinch inspired cleaning page on Facebook, one woman asked how to remove the “black stuff” (otherwise known as mould) on her shower sealant.

Helen Lawrence wrote: “Why did my black stuff not come off? Put bleach on, cotton pads and left for 30 plus hours.”

Cleaning enthusiasts were quick to assist Helen with her dilemma. Out of the many comments the post received, the majority advised against using bleach and instead insisted she use Astonish Mould and Mildew Blaster.

Sarah Sutcliffe said: “Astonish mould remover. I had mould on my sealant and it was amazing. £1 from the supermarket.”

Michelle Hughes commented: “Astonish mould and mildew spray is the best around. It’s £1 a bottle, you just spray and leave.”

Jennie Green wrote: “I use Astonish mould remover, it goes very quickly and most times never re-occurs.”

Jillian Sharp advised: “Use Astonish Mould and Mildew (in the green bottle), it’s the cheapest and fastest way to get rid of mould. It's how I get my bath sealant brilliant white again.”

C Oromled De J said: “Astonish Mould and Mildew. Worth £1. Very effective. Spray and leave. No need to scrub. Try it.”

Diane Carr suggested: “Try Astonish Mould and Mildew remover - it’s only £1 ish but works brilliantly. I was sceptical at first as I thought something so cheap couldn’t work so well. Was pleasantly surprised.”

Kim Jane Wooton replied: “I swear by this. Brilliant discovery. I don’t need to scrub my shower anymore. Just spray this and it stays sparkly white.”

On Astonish’s website they claim their mould and mildew spray “blasts away tough stains and effectively removes mould and mildew stains in minutes.”

For a long lasting cleaning solution the experts advise that households use this product regularly to help prevent the return of mould.

Not only can this spray be used to clean silicone sealants but it is also ideal for use on walls, uPVC window frames, glass, plastic shower curtains, bathroom tiles, grout, concrete, sinks and plugholes.

Britons can pick up this cleaning item from major retailers such as Asda for 99p, at Wilko for 95p and at The Range for £1.

For those who suggested that Helen use bleach to remove mould from her shower sealant, one woman warned against this.

Jamie Chapman said: “Never use bleach on mould, it feeds the internal mould spores. Even though the surface may look bleached and clean, the remaining spores will root deeper, stronger and will often return worse than before.”

Posting an image of the HG Mould Spray, Tracy Heatley said: “You need to buy this. It 100 percent works.”
